@ Astronomers using the Anglo-Australian Telescope of the Carnegie Institution Planet Search Program discover the 100th planet in our galaxy. They estimate there could be up to 30 billion earth-like planets in our galaxy alone. [BBC] Mars attacks?

@The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warned Microsoft, AOL Time Warner and other major search engine providers, to draw a clearer line between editors picks and paid-for "picks", when serving search engine results. Google is apparently found to comply with FTC guidelines. [Washington Post]

@ Singer & environmentalist Moby has come up with a novel way of hitting back at abusive emailers. Once the star had to change his personal email address after it was published on the internet and he began receiving hate email. "If you're a criminal, a runaway or a terrorist, a day at the beach here may soon be anything but that. Virginia Beach, Virginia becomes the second US city to employ facial-recognition software in an effort to assist police in identifying and catching criminals and missing persons. The system is to be tested along the city's oceanfront resort strip this holiday weekend, and police hope to have it fully operational in two to three weeks. "It's for our protection.
