* Mr. Stratis Babalikis, Ecotourism Member, informs us that:
"Euracademy" (Paneuropean Summer Schools for Sustainable Rural Development) is an initiative under Leonardo II vocational and training programme which aims in delivering two summer schools and structuring an interactive web site for distant-learning and exchange of ideas on the field of rural development amongst all relevant stakeholders. The first Summer school is held in the island of Gotland, Sweden from the 10th to 21st of August and is focusing in particular on rural tourism, whereas the next year's summer school is about the use of information society in rural development, planned to be hosted in Greece. More details: www.euracademy.org "

* Dr. Seth Sicroff, Ecotourism Member, sent us the following info:
"The Namche Conference will represent a departure from conventional academic symposia. Meeting in Namche Bazar (3450 m), at the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park in Nepal, we will have a chance to learn from indigenous experts as well as to observe directly (and participate in) the phenomenom in question: mountain ecotourism.
Initially planned for December 2002, this conference has been rescheduled to coincide with the events scheduled to mark the 50th anniversary of the first ascent of Sagarmatha by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on May 28, 1953. (For more information about the Everest Jubilee, and comprehensive information about Nepal, see the Nepal Tourism Board's Web site at http://www.WelcomeNepal.com.) Presentations will be extremely short (5 minute synopses), in order to allow time for extensive discussion, breakout seminars, and working daytrips. This format depends on early submission of abstracts and early distribution of full texts of all presentations. Although Khumbu and the Himalayas will be a natural point of reference for the Namche Conference, the focus is global: there will be presentations on mountain ecotourism destinations around the world."
