- UK TOURISM MINISTER PRESENTS NEW E-COMMERCE STUDY
submitted by Himalee Rupesinghe of GCIUK.com
Minister Kim Howells launched a major new report on e-tourism, which investigates how British tourism firms are using new technology to boost their business. The 'E-commerce Impact Study for the Tourism Sector', carried out by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP for the DCMS and the DTI-led UK online for business, examines the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) by accommodation providers and attraction operators. The report makes a number of recommendations: * firms should integrate their e-commerce strategies into their business plans, rather than viewing technology as an 'add-on' * technology systems need to be integrated, enabling real-time online booking and payment * customer relationship management needs to be exploited more effectively - only 16% of those interviewed currently analyse customer data collected from their website * clear measures need to be put in place to assess the return on investment from ICT.
